New Taipei City News – Calling all workers who love to sing! The 20th edition of the New Taipei City Labor Star Singing Competition, one of Taiwan’s longest-running and most prestigious labor singing contests, is officially open for registration. The competition features three divisions: Charm Star, Vibrant Star, and Migrant Worker Star. Registration is open now until 6:00 PM on July 31. Workers from New Taipei City and legally employed migrant workers throughout Taiwan are warmly invited to participate, compete through the power of music, and create unforgettable memories through song.
According to Rui-Jia Chen, Commissioner of the New Taipei City Department of Labor, the Labor Star Singing Competition is one of the most established and representative singing events organized by the public sector for workers. The event aims to encourage workers to develop healthy recreational interests outside of their demanding work schedules, promoting both physical and mental well-being. In recent years, the competition has also actively fostered international cultural exchange by providing migrant workers from different countries with a platform to share their cultural heritage through their native languages and music. This reflects New Taipei City’s commitment to inclusiveness, diversity, and international friendliness.
The competition offers a total prize pool of NT$360,000. Outstanding contestants in each division will receive generous cash awards, including NT$35,000 for First Place, NT$24,000 for Second Place, NT$18,000 for Third Place, NT$12,000 for Fourth Place, and NT$7,000 for Fifth Place. Contestants ranked from Sixth to Tenth Place will each receive NT$3,000. In addition, special awards such as the Best Costume Award, Best Stage Presence Award, and Best Cheer Squad Award will be presented, giving both participants and their supporters opportunities to win recognition and prizes.
The Department of Labor stated that individuals who are 18 years of age or older, are currently employed, and either have household registration in New Taipei City or work in New Taipei City are eligible to register. Legally employed migrant workers residing in Taiwan are also welcome to participate. All eligible individuals are encouraged to seize this opportunity to pursue their dreams and express themselves through music.
