Hou, Yu-Ih Invites Foreign Diplomats in Taiwan to Experience Woodball and Promotes Free Sightseeing Buses for 3 Months

The “2025 World Masters Games City ” will officially begin on May 17. Today (16th), New Taipei City Mayor Hou, Yu-Ih and Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-An hosted the “Countdown to 2025 WMG:International Woodball Friendship Tournament,” inviting diplomats and representatives from 19 diplomatic missions and foreign chambers of commerce in Taiwan to experience woodball, a sport that fosters friendships and serves as a warm-up event for the World Masters Games. They also encouraged people to seize the opportunity to sign up and participate.

Hou, Yu-Ih stated that woodball is a sport invented by Taiwanese. The design of the goalposts and mallets was inspired by Taiwan’s beer bottles. The gameplay is similar to golf but less difficult, making it a fun and accessible sport for all ages. It will also be one of the competition events at this year’s World Masters Games. He hopes that through t International Woodball Friendship Tournament, more foreign friends will learn about Taiwan’s woodball culture, and he welcomes foreign diplomats to sign up and join the friendly match.
Hou You-yi mentioned that the World Masters Games already has over 31,000 athletes from 137 countries registered. To support the participants, New Taipei City will offer three months of free access to sightseeing buses (from May 17 to August 16, 2025) for visitors to the “Shuigunjou” area, including popular destinations like Jiufen, the Shenao Rail Bike, Shuinandong, and the Golden Museum. This initiative aims to boost local tourism and industry development.

Additionally, Hou You-yi pointed out that the Banqiao Stadium, Citizen Plaza, and Xinzhuang Stadium will serve as venues for the disabled competitions. The city will provide one-on-one dedicated services to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for disabled athletes. He emphasized that New Taipei City and Taipei City governments are fully committed to preparing for the event, and registration for the World Masters Games will close on February 17 this year. He encouraged friends both domestically and internationally who are 30 years old and above to take advantage of this rare opportunity and actively register for this world-class sporting event.
