The New Taipei City WJS Marathon received both 2023 DFA Design For Asia Awards and the Golden Pin Design Award for its trendy and avant-garde visual design. Today (16th), the acting mayor of New Taipei City, Liou Her-Ran, who represents New Taipei City Government, announced that the registration for the 2024 WJS Marathon will be open from 12:00 PM on October 17th to October 31st. In addition, a first-of-its-kind 3D animated key vision for the Taiwan running community was introduced with the chairman of Chinese Taipei Athletics Association, Yeh Chen-Yen. Next year’s event also marks the first collaboration with the well-known travel platform KLOOK to launch the special travel packages for the WJS Marathon, which invites everyone to not only participate in the race but also continue to explore the beauty of the northern coast while enjoying a new experience that combines sports and tourism.

Acting Mayor of New Taipei City, Liou Her-Ran, stated that sports can bring people together and connect positive energy. With the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association and all sponsors over the past 22 years, the New Taipei City WJS Marathon has become the only and the first event in the country to receive both World Athletics Road Race Label Events and the “International Responsible Sport Silver Label.” This not only proves the team’s high-level event organization capabilities but also signifies that the WJS Marathon is an environmentally responsible and sustainable event. In 2024, we will continue the spirit of “taking the next ten thousand steps,” in spite of the event quality or environmental sustainability, we will be at the front and surpass ourselves.

Acting Mayor, Liou Her-Ran, emphasized that sports tourism is a trend, the most beautiful coastline of New Taipei City for the WJS Marathon is perfectly to be the racetrack. This time, they have partnered with the travel platform KLOOK to introduce a special WJS running and travel project, offering exclusive discounts to runners. They invite everyone to not only take part in the race but also explore the beauty of the northern coast and enjoy a new experience that combines sports and tourism.

The Sports Office adds that the three major design awards in Asia, which include Korean K-DESIGN, Hong Kong DFA Design For Asia Awards, and Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award. The WJS Marathon is not only the leader for the Gold Label certification and its sustainability among all road running events in Taiwan, but also earned the Excellence Award in DFA Design For Asia Awards and the Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award for its 2023 visual design with its innovative and avant-garde comic collage style which demonstrates bold and innovative marathon sports image. There were over 8,000 entries for the Golden Pin Design Award, and after evaluation by a group of 30 experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, 552 designs received the “Golden Pin Design Mark” and entered to the final round of selection.

Recognized by two of the major design awards in Asia, the 2024 visual design for the event continues to collaborate with the designer, Peng Guan-Jie, who has won the German iF Design Award. We attempt to present a 3D animation for the first time, using various graphic elements to construct and reconfigure and also combining   special features of WJS such as the Wanli Tunnel, Queen’s Head, local food, and the mountain and sea landscapes. This creates a diverse design, which will offer runners a unique and fresh experience.

The registration time for the “2024 New Taipei City WJS Marathon” is from 12:00 PM on October 17th to 12:00 PM on October 31st. The drawing results will be announced on the official website at 6:00 PM on November 1st.
