[New Taipei City News] Shortly upon returning to Taiwan today (Apr 22) after leading a city government delegation to Singapore for a four-day, three-night international exchange and fact-finding tour, New Taipei City mayor Hou You-yi delivered an official speech. Mayor Hou pointed out that in the face of various challenges, Taiwan can draw on Singapore’s experiences in leveraging its strengths and capabilities internally, and deepen international ties externally to create opportunities and strengths for the nation.
Mayor Hou led a delegation to Singapore on April 19 for a city tour, during which he visited the Parkroyal Collection at Marina Bay, NTUitive Innovation Center at Nanyang Technological University, Newton Food Centre, and SGInnovate. In addition, the delegation met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong Shyun Tsai, Minister for National Development Desmond Lee Ti-Seng, Vice President of Economic Development Board Peng,Ming Cyuan and Acting Vice President Liu Jin Rong to exchange views on the current economic and industrial landscape, future plans and collaboration possibilities between the two sides, and to bring Singapore’s experience back to Taiwan through mutual reference.
When sharing his insights from his visit to Singapore, Mayor Hou said that both Taiwan and Singapore are located in a region at the frontlines of geopolitical conflict, and both play an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability under the constantly evolving and often dynamic geopolitical situation. Therefore, every effort should be made to avoid conflict and reduce the risk of war.
Mayor Hou stressed that we should shoulder the responsibility of guarding the next generation and creating a sustainable and prosperous Taiwan. He believed that this trip could “Learn from Singapore and Prosperity to Taiwan”, learn from Singapore’s versatile and resilient wisdom, encourage Taiwan to retain its strengths and confidence, be pragmatic, and strive to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait for the good of the world.
