Uber’s Vice President of Global Public Policy, Andrew Byrne, led a team to visit the New Taipei City Government yesterday (June 3), where they discussed Uber’s outlook for the Taiwan market, current operations, and shared experiences. Both sides also explored the potential to expand Uber services to rural areas of New Taipei, while also aiming to create more job opportunities, improve holiday service in tourist areas, and address issues related to public safety and sanitation.

Vice President Byrne flew in from San Francisco early yesterday and traveled directly to New Taipei. He exchanged ideas with Mayor Hou on future market development and opportunities for collaboration with New Taipei. Uber currently provides a range of services, including transportation and food delivery, supported by a robust technology platform and user interface. Uber enjoys a leading position in Taiwan’s delivery ecosystem. Vice President Byrne emphasized, “We will continue to invest in Taiwan and look forward to further cooperation with the New Taipei City Government.” Mayor Hou expressed his support for the proposed collaboration.

Other members of the visiting delegation included Mike Orgill, Senior Director of Public Policy & Government Relations for the Asia-Pacific region; Pei Chih Marvin Ma, Head of Public Policy & Government Affairs; Lu En-kuang, Manager of Public Policy & Government Affairs; and Wan-Shin Peng, Manager of Public Policy & Government Affairs. On behalf of the New Taipei City Government, Deputy Secretary-general Ko Ching-chung, Director-General of the Transportation Department Chung Ming-shih, and Director-General of the Economic Development Department Sheng Hsiao-rung accompanied the mayor in receiving the delegation.
