The TCSA, which is regarded as Oscars for sustainability in Taiwan, was started in 2008 by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy. The institute aims to promote corporate social responsibility, reward businesses that have fulfilled their social responsibility, enhance social responsibility standards across all sectors in Taiwan, increase sustainable practice, and draw attention to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. This year, the TCSA added a new category, namely the Government Agencies Voluntary Local Review, under which New Taipei City’s first VLR won a gold award.
The city government published its second VLR on November 11, 2021. This VLR covers the sustainability policies implemented by the city government’s various departments, the city’s efforts against COVID-19, and the joint achievements of the public and private sectors in promoting sustainable development. New Taipei City is also the only city in Taiwan to be invited to attend the Local and Regional Governments Day of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference. Representing New Taipei City, Director General Ching-yu Yao of the Secretariat spoke at the forum about the creation of the city’s second VLR to an audience comprising city leaders worldwide.
Between 2019 and October 2021, New Taipei City held and participated in 28 events and conducted exchanges with more than 79 countries and 154 cities, and it is continually seeking opportunities for collaboration and exchanges with international partners, continually consulting with experts and scholars on relevant topics, and actively participating in international organizations and forums.
