[New Taipei City News] Hosted by the New Taipei City Government Youth Department, the 2025 New Taipei International Street Dance Competition came to a successful close today (August 3). With a total prize pool of NT$450,000, this year’s event attracted 215 street dancers and 75 youth choreography teams from across Taiwan.
After fierce competition, F.os from M.I.L.K ryukyu, a team from Japan, took first place in the Youth Choreography Division. In the Breaking Solo Battle, the championship went to Wei Ni, while the All Style 1 ON 1 Battle crowned Popping Kim as champion, followed by Golden Wei and Waving GU in second and third place, respectively. The top three winners in this category have also earned seed qualifications for the Cheonan International Street Dance Championship (CIDC) in Korea this September, where they will represent Taiwan on the global stage.
New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih attended the finals to present awards and commended the dancers for their outstanding performances. He noted that since its launch in 2008, the New Taipei International Street Dance Competition has become one of the most influential street dance events in Taiwan. Mayor Hou encouraged all young dancers to embrace the competition’s slogan, “My Stage, My Rule!”, reminding them that whether their style is powerful or graceful, every dancer has a unique voice to share. He emphasized that the New Taipei City Government will remain a strong supporter of youth development, helping young dancers pursue their dreams with confidence and courage—starting right here in New Taipei.
Marcia Chiu, Commissioner of the New Taipei City Youth Department, highlighted that street dance has been an integral part of Taiwan’s performing arts culture since the 1980s. As a platform for youth to express creativity and self-confidence, the competition has been elevated to the international level to help the next generation of dancers gain valuable experience and global exposure. This year, the department also launched the inaugural “Street Dance Career Exploration Workshop”, aimed at introducing young people to diverse career opportunities within the street dance industry and broader performing arts field.
This year’s competition featured not only strong domestic participation, but also international dancers from the United States, the Philippines, and Japan, making the event highly competitive and diverse. Over 1,000 spectators attended the finals, reflecting the vibrant and inclusive street dance culture of New Taipei.
AYANE, a dancer from Okinawa, Japan, shared that she discovered the competition through social media and had always been drawn to Taiwan’s dynamic street dance scene. Her studio decided to send three solo dancers and form two teams for the competition. Both teams advanced to the finals and achieved excellent results, making the experience memorable and worthwhile.
Popping Kim, Golden Wei, and Waving GU, winners of the All Style 1 ON 1 Battle, expressed their excitement about representing Taiwan in Korea this September. They look forward to exchanging skills with international dancers, gaining valuable experience, and bringing pride to Taiwan on the global stage.
Looking ahead, the New Taipei City Government Youth Department will continue promoting international street dance competitions and creating broader, more prestigious platforms for young talent in Taiwan to shine on the world stage.
